What's your favorite bait for inshore? Favorite live bait, artificials, etc. Talk amongst yourselves. I'm trying to soak in as much info as possible and I know there are some pretty good anglers around here.

the standard jig head and fresh dead shrimp is always good.

trout will enjoy a freelined live shrimp during the fall.

those are just two of my standard rigs right there. nice and simple.

live shrimp, hooked through the horn, on an 1/8th oz. jighead.... and a basic flounder rig, 1/2 oz egg, 18" leader with circle hook and a mud minnow out the back. cast the jig, ignore the hell out of the mud.

Man, I sure hope some tailor blues show up at my neighborhood pier soon.

I'm going to rig up "old lucky" which is a really old fishing rod that was my grandfathers. The reel I use is an old green penn, a small one, but the little circular inset with the size on the two that I own have fallen off years ago. Then for the tackle, I'm going to use a buck tail. Maybe neon green.

I like a lead head and grub with a trailor if I thought I might ever catch a trout again.

BTW, my old man has been furiously working towards getting our gear ready for the season. His idea is taking all our "best" reels and putting new line on them. He says that the men at the tackle store fawn over my little green penn reels.

For "live bait" I prefer mullet strip.

I'm a "float rig" guy for the most part and use several variations as well as a pop'in cork ,cajun thunder with live shrimp. Although a slip sinker and a finger mullet will suffice for flounder and shallow reds.

the cajun thunder with livies in a creek is a blast. since i rarely make it to the creek, this is the method i use most.

for whiting from the surf, custom tied 2 or 3 trail with #1 owners on 20lb mono and a 1-2 ounce pyramid or sputnik at the bottom if its drifty. peeled and halfed dead shrimp. super stealthy for whiting a pompano and pier fishing.

for blue and macks in the surf, standard silver spoon or a gotcha plug.

i use a abu garcia ambassadeur 5000 series on a 7 foot med action with 12 lb. good all around rig although i need a new rod.

Mill Cove was on fire yesterday....eating everything that hit the water on the falling tide 3 big trout, kept the smallest and released the other two, one was a female just over 8lbs, the other female just under 6 both loaded with roe, and kept two Reds a 22" and a 24" respectively. released probably 25 others between the two of us about half and half on the slot limit, friggen banner day.

1/4 oz red jig heads with dead shrimp seemed to be the ticket last weekend. I wasn't planning on fishing this weekend since I'm going to the gulf the following, but I've been reading about alot of big trout being caught floating live shrimp. I'm kinda jonesing to go now.

I just really bottom fish ... I use 30lb braided line on a 6ft and 6'6 med. action rods with a 1/4 oz egg sinker and owner circle hooks with dead skrimp or live mullet or cut bait from the small fish I catch. I'd like to learn to use lures and artificials, but I usually fish near rocks, shells or jetties most of the time...

....some really nice finger mullet in the lake at Huguenot this a.m. I wish I'd had a couple of more hours to kill.
